I was born in late winter 1922, in Montreal , Quebec , Canada , to Italian immigrants. In 1926, my family moved to a small city in southeastern Ontario , on the north shore of the St. Lawrence River . Here, I received my primary and high school education. I also studied Machine Shop Practice during my teenage years. I volunteered to serve my country during WW2. Graduating as an air gunner, I then served as a mid-upper gunner on 4-engine bombers on the European Continent. A crash midway through my second tour of operations deteriorated my health, which also jeopardized the safety and welfare of the aircraft and crew. I decided to resign from operational duties. I took an instructor's course and taught new gunnery recruits for six months before being sent home to Canada , where I was discharged. Going back to work at my old job as a machinist, I was able to attend university extension courses to improve my abilities. It was at this time, when I met and married a local girl. My wife, Rose, and I live in Cambridge (Galt), Ontario in a brick, cottage-type house that we both designed and built. Here, we raised our two daughters, who in turn became the apples of my eye. I am blessed with two lovely grandchildren and three great grandchildren that manage to keep me on my toes. Rose and I retired and in June 2006, we celebrated our 59 th wedding anniversary. I have slowed down, but continue to stay busy in my small rose and vegetable gardens. |
